New Faces

Looking to become a model?

Are you a new face looking to break into the industry? You will find many websites and a wealth of information for new models on the internet, it is important you read as much as you can in order to familiarise yourself with the industry.

Firstly some things to be aware of

As with any industry there are scam agencies around. It is vital that people wishing to break into modelling check out the agencies they are considering joining. Some agencies charge large sums of money to register with them. Agencies cannot ever guarantee work for models as client’s requirements cannot be predicted. It is not advisable to pay large sums of money to register with agencies. Too many budding models have lost money and received no work. The same goes for companies offering ‘model portfolios’ free of charge. The hard sell comes when the photographs have been produced. Models have ended up paying vast sums of money for photographs which are often of poor quality and certainly not what client’s are looking for when selecting models for their shoots. It is particularly important to choose your photographer carefully when under 18 years old as clients requesting children or teenagers for shoots want to see images of them looking their age, not a 14 year old who has been made to look 18 years old! Have a look at their portfolios and ask to speak to people who have had portfolios with them before. Check the cost before booking the shoot and double check what is included in that cost. Talk to modeling agencies about photographers they would recommend as they will know what they are looking for.

The TPPA Way

To register your details on our database simply click on ‘join us’ on the top right hand side of our site, making sure you complete the correct form for your age. We don’t turn away people wishing to register with us because we feel everyone has a unique ‘look’ and we cannot predict what our clients are looking for. Therefore you don’t need to wait in anticipation for a call from us to see whether you have been accepted. We will be delighted to have you register with us!

This way of working means we can cater for a wide range of client’s requirements. We have hand and face models to fashion models and fitting models.

Once you are registered with us, you will be contacted with details of suitable assignments we think you may be interested in. When assignments are received into our office, the client’s requirements are entered into our database which searches for people meeting the criteria. Our team then shortlist from the search results and contact short-listed people. If you are contacted and are interested in being presented to the client for selection, your photographs and the profile (bio) paragraph you have written on your registration form are sent to our client.

It is important therefore that the images you choose to up-load on your registration form and the information you give in your profile paragraph do you justice! It is also important that all other information you enter on your registration form is accurate and that you make sure you keep it up-to-date. It is particularly important that images are up-dated on a regular basis for children and if hair colour changes etc! Some clients request CVs in addition to the images and bio paragraph. Therefore if you are over 16 years old, it is important to up-load a CV detailing your study/work history and information about yourself.

Some clients select from this information, some request castings. Normally this depends on the type of assignment. NB: Castings are not normally paid and therefore it is important that you are happy with the assignment details before agreeing to attend the casting. It is also important that prior to accepting an assignment you are 100% committed to attending and are happy with the terms offered eg pay rate agreed and hours.

The bio is a brief description of yourself, perhaps your characteristics, explaining your experience or mentioning any relevant experience that may be of interest to our client when considering you for the assignment.

Little Ones.

Children under 16 years of age require an adult to register for them. The safety of our models is paramount at all times.

Child models, baby to 15 years require parental/guardian permission and details, without this you will be unable to register. The registration form requires the guardian’s contact details as we do not contact children direct regarding assignments.

Registering Online with our Agency.

As mentioned, please do read the registration form carefully when completing it. We require correct contact details, correct statistics, a profile/description of you listing experience and a minimum of 3 photographs in order to put a candidate forward for work. We recommend between 6 & 12 photographs are up-loaded if you are looking to work as a model. You will find a drop down menu so you can categorise yourself also, eg: if you are an actor, dancer, entertainer, hand model, lingerie model, catwalk model, promotional person or industry specialist, you can categorise your profile in this way. To view the full selection of options, take a look at our ‘model categories’ options on the form. More than one category can be selected.

If you are looking to be selected by our Art Director to appear on the website in our ‘selected models’ pages, you will need to upload a minimum of 7 good quality, portrait style images.

And finally….. GET YOURSELF OUT THERE!

As a ‘New Face’ looking to move into modelling it is advisable to register with more then one agency, this maximises your chances of finding work. It is certainly worth registering with a few local agencies as well as national ones.

If you are passionate about modelling and really think you’ve got potential it is a good idea to speak with some of the top London agencies. The way they work is quite different and they look to ‘represent’ models where they actively promote models to their clients. They will give you an honest opinion as to whether they feel you have potential in the modelling industry. Even if they do not accept you onto their books, don’t lose heart, it is still worth registering with local agencies. As we said before, we never know what our clients are looking for and you may have just the ‘look’ they require!

Lastly, Good luck! If you have further questions you can contact New Faces; newfaces@promotionalpeople.co.uk for further instructions about registering or for any questions and queries contact enquiries@promotionalpeople.co.uk
